The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) offers a Ph.D. in Psychology with Specialization in Health Psychology. Several factors distinguish our Health Psychology program. Downtown El Paso is on the border of México, and the UTEP campus is minutes away from downtown Ciudad Juárez. Through collaboration with organizations on both sides of the border, we are able to provide our candidates with unprecedented opportunities for work in the fields of cross-cultural health promotion, minority health, health disparities research, and community-based research initiatives.
Our faculty also study a wide range of health-related topics including, adolescent risk taking (Cohn), injury control (Cohn), intervention adherence (Cooper), decision-making as it relates to stages of change and health (Wiebe, Morera), addictive behavior in minority communities (Cooper), behavioral aspects of chronic illnesses (Weibe), and the neurocognitive sequelae of selected medical conditions in childhood (Sobin).
For more information about doctoral training in Health Psychology at UTEP, please contact any of the core faculty or Dr. Lawrence Cohn (lcohn@utep.edu), the graduate program director.
